Take the NYC Snow Bus and Enjoy the Slopes

January 2023

For many, the winter months mean it’s time to take the skis out of storage and gear up to hit the slopes. While New York may not be the state most skiers associate with a snowy skiing retreat, New Yorkers have plenty of options close to home for squeezing in a session — for everyone from those learning how to snowplow  on the bunny slopes to veterans tearing through double black diamonds. Residents of the Midtown West luxury rentals at 555TEN are conveniently located near the NYC Snow Bus, which offers chartered trips to some of the region’s most desirable skiing destinations, many of which are just a short distance from the city and ideal for a weekend getaway.

Just 90 minutes from New York City is Mountain Creek, which offers a series of packages that include bus trips, all-access lift tickets, rentals for snowboards or skis, or all-access packages that include rentals and lessons for beginners. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, there is on-site tubing. Mountain Creek boasts the area’s highest vertical and only All-Mountain Terrain Park, with 17 dedicated terrain park traits . There are four distinct peaks available, with night skiing options. Those who want a variety of activities can enjoy the zipline and alpine park roller coaster. Lodgings are available for overnight stays, with the requisite wood-burning fireplaces for warming up after a day in the snow.

Another nearby option is Hunter Mountain, which boasts the closest big mountain to the city, with three discrete peaks that offer skiers a range of terrains and difficulty levels. Windham Mountain, located within 200 miles of the city, offers 258 acres of skiable terrain, with 54 trails and six terrain parks. Windham also offers night skiing, where skiers can take a break by the campfire before getting back on the lift.

Whiteface Mountain offers between 500 and 750 acres, with terrain for cross-country as well as downhill skiers. The resort boasts the highest vertical drop in the Northeast, as well as being the only mountain with double black diamond backcountry for true experts. But with a choice of 87 trails, there are plenty of options for beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert skiers alike. Gore Mountain offers wide trails covering more than 500 acres, with plenty of terrain for a mix of skill levels and cross-country skiers. And a midpeak  rustic base lodge is the perfect destination for taking in views of the Adirondacks and Vermont while replenishing your energy for more skiing ahead.

With a wealth of skiing destinations to be discovered close to New York City, 555TEN can make it from the Midtown Manhattan apartments to the slopes in record time.
