A New Theater/Restaurant Combination Brings Action and Flavor to Manhattan
December 2022
A new, intimate theater and restaurant combo has opened in Manhattan West, mere blocks from the Midtown rentals at 555TEN. Dubbed the Midnight Theatre, this variety venue is already turning heads with its range of shows and the mouthwatering fare at its companion eatery, Hidden Leaf. Keep reading to learn more about this new destination in the heart of Manhattan.
The Midnight Theatre and Hidden Leaf are the brainchildren of creative director Warren Adcock, restaurateur Josh Cohen, and Cycle Projects, and the result is an immersive art deco-inspired theater replete with technology meant to bring the audience into contact with the performers. Projection mapping screens (with 270-degree coverage) surround the 160-seat audience area, while a diverse cocktail and five-course tasting menu delivers preshow tastes to pair with the entertainment, creating a sensory overload sure to leave audiences jonesing for more.
The lineup at the Midnight Theatre runs the gamut from comedy and magic to music and live podcast tapings, with more shows being added every day. Recurring events like the Midnight Theatre Soccer Club, where soccer enthusiasts can enjoy their favorite clubs facing off in style, and the Mingus Big Band Residency are sure to cultivate loyal fans, while the weekly stage magic showcase introduces new faces weekly.
The theater is far enough from Broadway to have its own identity while still being located close enough to the Theater District to take advantage of the area’s density of fine dining, though many audience members will likely choose to dine at Hidden Leaf, the venue’s sister eatery, where Executive Chef Chai Trivedi has concocted a menu that draws from many Asian influences. Open for lunch and dinner, Hidden Leaf offers dishes inspired by cuisine from locales as diverse as Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos, as well cocktails by mixologist Iain Griffiths, whose new permanent home is behind the bar at Midnight Cafe, the venue’s street-level cocktail bar.
Together, the Midnight Theatre, Hidden Leaf, and Midnight Cafe represent a new way to spend the after-work cocktail hour with friends, grab a bite to eat, and settle in for a sidesplittingly funny night of entertainment. And, of course, residents of the nearby Midtown Manhattan apartments at 555TEN can swing by for lunch, thanks to the venue’s proximity. Check out the Midnight Theatre’s calendar to identify which shows you want to see. Then check out the available rentals at 555TEN and put this exciting venue just a few blocks from home.
