A World of Cuisine Just Blocks From Home

When it’s time to pick a spot for dinner, living in Midtown Manhattan can be a blessing and a curse. Sure, every type of cuisine under the sun is just moments away, but how are you supposed to choose? And what if you and your dining partners are craving something completely different? Well, residents of the Midtown Manhattan apartments at 555TEN are in luck, thanks to the new Citizens New York food hall, where diners can select from a dozen counter-service eateries, a pair of full-service restaurants, and a bakery-turned-bar. Here’s a rundown of what residents can expect to find at this comprehensive food hall.

Open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Citizens New York is home to 10 food kiosks, a coffee shop, a cookie stand, a pair of sit-down restaurants anchored by renowned chefs, two bars, and a to-go shop, all housed in a 40,000-square-foot hall with plenty of seating. The kiosks are great when your party can’t agree on a restaurant, allowing everyone to get something they want and still sit and eat together. Choose from vendors and cuisines including Mediterranean bites at Soom Soom, classic burgers from Umami, succulent sandwiches from Sam’s Crispy Chicken, hearty meals from Stonie Bowls, and more. Vegetarian guests will love Plant Nation, while visitors with a sweet tooth will want to swing by Cindy Lou’s Cookies on the way out.

For a more formal dining experience, choose between the two full-service restaurants, which offer cuisines from different sides of the globe. Chef Katsuya Uechi’s eponymous eatery combines traditional Japanese cuisine with a California twist, serving a wide variety of exquisite sushi as well as entrees like a massive 14-ounce Australian Wagyu ribeye and Thai snapper with ginger chili sauce. On the other side of the hall, visitors will find Casa Dani, the latest creation from Michelin-star chef Dani García. From small tapas plates to family-sized slabs of aged beef and whole Spanish turbot, Casa Dani brings Spain to Midtown with a comprehensive menu that spans the Iberian Peninsula.

Whether you’re a gourmand on the hunt for the latest and greatest dish or just looking to explore some new flavors, Citizens New York is the perfect place to grab dinner with friends and family. Best of all, once you’ve eaten your fill and picked up some tasty to-go treats for a midnight snack, your spacious 555TEN rental is less than 10 minutes away! Head to the availability page and secure your Midtown West home today, so you can eat to your heart’s content tomorrow.

An Intimate Portrait of Jean-Michel Basquiat

For summer 2022, renowned architect David Adjaye has transformed the ground floor of the iconic Starrett-Lehigh Building into a biographical exhibition celebrating one of New York’s most notable modern artists. “King Pleasure” takes visitors on an immersive journey through the life and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose work captured the complex intersection of art, culture, and politics as experienced by Black Americans as the 20th century drew to a close. Keep reading to learn more about Basquiat’s life and work and to get information on this unique exhibition, which is located just minutes from the Midtown rentals at 555TEN.

Jean-Michel Basquiat made a huge impact on the art world during his tragically brief career. He was raised in Brooklyn by his Puerto Rican mother and Haitian father, who encouraged their precocious son to learn multiple languages and express himself in myriad ways. By the time Basquiat was in high school, he had begun to develop his unique artistic style, which combined street culture influences like graffiti and rap with classical and literary forms.

Basquiat’s paintings soon caught the attention of art dealers in New York and Italy, and he became a part of a hip set of New York creatives, which included artist Andy Warhol, filmmaker Vincent Gallo, and musician Debbie Harry. The artist’s fame only increased after his untimely death at age 27, with one of his paintings, “Untitled,” selling for more than $100 million in 2017.

“King Pleasure” seeks to create an intimate portrait of this complicated artist by displaying more than 200 never-before-seen and rarely displayed works. The exhibit includes personal objects as well as rare paintings and drawings, all curated by the Basquiat family to tell the artist’s life story as only they know it. Overseen by David Adjaye, “King Pleasure” features distinct, immersive spaces that bring visitors into Basquiat’s world, giving them a peek behind the scenes at the artist’s influences — both personal and political.

Residents of the luxury rentals at 555TEN need only head west toward the Hudson River to reach the Starrett-Lehigh Building and experience “King Pleasure.” The exhibition’s website recommends reserving tickets ahead of time, which guarantees your ability to get in and (with the purchase of tickets at a special rate) allows you and your group to skip the line. Secure your tickets today.

And, if you’re looking for a home base from which to explore more great art and cultural landmarks, check out the availability at 555TEN, and find the perfect rental for your family.

Best of all, this scenic route provides separate, dedicated paths for pedestrians and bicyclists to keep everyone safe.

When biking isn’t in the cards, the subway is ready 24/7 to take you where you want to go. The High Line to Stretch North With a Pair of New Bridges

Plans recently unveiled by Gov. Kathy Hochul will extend the elevated High Line park all the way to the Moynihan Train Hall in Midtown. The pair of pedestrian bridges that make up the project will allow New Yorkers and visitors alike to travel all the way from the Whitney Museum of American Art to the newly built train hall without descending to street level, all while enjoying greenery and intimate sights throughout Chelsea. And, of course, the new connection will begin just a few blocks south of the Midtown rentals at 555TEN, bringing this unique transportation corridor that much closer to these luxury homes. Keep reading to learn more about this exciting plan.

Initially announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo last year as part of an ambitious Midtown West redevelopment scheme, the High Line Moynihan Connector is the result of a public-private partnership between Empire State Development, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Brookfield Properties Group, and Friends of the High Line. Together, these groups tapped architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and the landscape architects at Field Operations to create two distinct bridges: a Woodlands Bridge running parallel with 30th Street and a Timber Bridge that will connect the Woodlands Bridge with the Moynihan Train Hall.

As the names suggest, the two bridges will feature different yet complementary aesthetics. The Woodlands Bridge will be planted with lush greenery akin to the densest stretches of the High Line itself, while the Timber Bridge will feature a more spartan look as it takes people over traffic to the Magnolia Court passageway that runs through Brookfield Properties’ Manhattan West megadevelopment. Together, the new bridges will stretch 1,200 feet to connect the High Line, Moynihan Train Hall, and Hudson Yards — tying together disparate aspects of Midtown West’s recent development while celebrating the successful High Line linear park concept and expanding it into a new neighborhood.

For residents of 555TEN, the new bridges will bring the elevated pathways currently snaking up and down Manhattan’s West Side quite a bit closer, helping connect Midtown West with more southerly neighborhoods. Soon, 555TEN residents will be able to traverse a few short blocks before ascending to the elevated passage and making their way to Chelsea Market and beyond without touching the street.

If you’re looking to put yourself at the center of the action in Midtown West, head to the 555TEN availability page to see the NYC luxury rentals that are waiting for you.
