555TEN | Interview with Adam & Mike (Throw Me A Bone)

January 2017

Every resident of 555TEN—human, canine, and feline alike—can expect top-notch service and amenities in their new home. Pampered pets and their busy owners will quickly come to rely on the services of Throw Me a Bone (TMAB), the pet-care firm that’s providing on-site daycare, playtime, and vet appointments. We caught up with TMAB’s founders, Adam and Mike, to find out what sets their company apart, and how 555TEN’s furry residents will benefit from their attention to detail and love for animals.

What special services does 555TEN offer pets and their busy humans?
Pet-friendly apartments in Manhattan aren’t easy to come by, and few offer the kind of bespoke animal-care services that the 555TEN rentals do. Our goal at Throw Me A Bone (TMAB) is to make sure that top-flight service for four-legged residents rivals the offerings for their human companions.

What does Throw Me A Bone offer?
TMAB is a boutique, full-service pet-care company that offers daycare, walking and grooming services, and playtime for New York City’s beloved dogs and cats. TMAB staff will even pick up and drop off a pet, in accordance with the individual schedules of 555TEN residents.

How did Throw Me A Bone get started?
Back in 2007, Mike’s wife was searching for a good dog daycare option, only to find that local providers’ waiting lists ran as long as two months. Sensing an unmet need, we launched Throw Me A Bone to serve busy New York professionals and the pets they love.

How much has Throw Me A Bone expanded since then?
Nearly a decade later, the staff is made up of more than 30 pet-care specialists, and we’re teaming up with Extell to provide personalized service to the lucky pets of 555TEN. Those pets are in for a treat, and we couldn’t be happier.

How does your background help shape the culture of TMAB?
Having worked together in finance, we have a finely honed customer service ethic. We return calls and emails right away, no matter what, and we both take client feedback very seriously. Happy, healthy pets and satisfied pet owners are our top priorities.

What’s the highlight of the 555TEN pet-care experience?
We’re especially excited about the pet-specific amenities at 555TEN, including a dedicated outdoor play area with leaping mounds for dogs and views of the Hudson for their owners, a grooming station complete with a pet-sized tub, and clinic space for the vet. At any given time, 10-15 dogs might be found playing together—an ideal situation for urban dogs who crave social time.

What sorts of outdoor amenities can 555TEN residents with pets enjoy?
Just like the fitness options for the human residents of these Midtown rentals, 555TEN’s pet amenities are complemented by proximity to many neighborhood resources. Within easy walking distance, the Pier 84 dog run, right by the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, provides exercise and play with other local dogs on a nice day, as well as scenic views of the Hudson River.

What impact do size, breed, and temperament have on a group pet-care situation?
We take care of many kinds of dogs; they get grouped by size, breed, and age; and temperament is key. We pay special attention to selecting the appropriate group for each dog.
